Cyber Bullying

After today's discussion about youth and the internet, I wanted to find the laws related to cyberbullying. It appears that most states are adapting and trying to keep up with the technology by creating laws to protect people from cyberbullying. The state of Missouri, where cyberbully victim Megan Meier lived, have the strongest laws against cyberbullying, cyber-harassment is now a felony in that state. But there are still several states without cyberbullying laws. And there is still no federal laws against cyberbullying.
I think with all the media attention cyberbullying has been given, people will be more aware of the things they say online and the consequences that may come from harassing others. Even Perez Hilton, a celebrity gossip blogger, has promised to stop being mean.

  1. I found it really interesting that at the end of your post you talked about people gossiping about celebrities. I have always thought that it is pretty ridiculous that people give so much crap to celebrities just because they have more publicity surrounding them. It is a sad spectacle to see even celebrities lives get ruined because of the publicity that they get to a fault. In one article I read celebrity Sienna Miller is suing a reporter for hacking into her cell phone voicemail. http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/sienna-miller/sienna-miller-hits-phone-hacking-tabloid-lawsuit-412588 This is just another ridiculous form of gossip and really no matter who it is about really is attacking a persons well being and can be seen as bullying.
