Documenting Copyright at its Finest

Rip! A Remix Manifesto is an incredible documentary created by Brett Gaylor in 2008 about copyright law and a whole number of other topics including piracy, remixing, and dj culture in countries such as Brazil. Gaylor has an incredible way that he communicates with his viewers, bringing in found footage and pirated material to make the points he is presenting come to life. The film closely follows famous remixing artist, Greg Gillis - or Girl Talk - and how he has overcome copyright law in his profession.

The coolest part about the film is that it was created as a collaborative effort by members of the Open Source Cinema community. Open Source Cinema is a website that encourages remix culture and communities to take footage from films such as Rip! A Remix Manifesto and use them in their own unique ways to create something new. Much like Lawrence Lessig's book Code 2.0, a book recreated by its readers, the creators of Rip! want to do the same thing with a second version of A Remix Manifesto through Open Source Cinema.

Enjoy the trailer.
