Censorship in Iran

Recently we looked at this OpenNet map that explains some aspects of internet filtering in countries around the world. If you've paid particular attention, you may have noticed that Iran meets the standards of "Pervasive" filtering in all categories. This is because the amount of filtering that goes on in Iran is just about even with the filtering that goes on in China.
I have a good friend that took a trip to Iran just this last summer, and he said while he was there, the government hadHere's an article that briefly explains the internet situation in Iran.

  1. I thought it was interesting that in Iran, when a page is trying to be found, it will say "The requested page is forbidden". It seems like some of the other countries that use censorship will at least try to play it off like it is problem with the website. Iran is not even trying to hide to it's people that they are filtering websites.

  2. During the Iran elections the majority of people found out what was happening via twitter... because so many sites were banned and twitter was fairly new that Iran had not ban it yet (if it is banned now, I am unsure).
