Burma and Internet

Burma AKA Myanmar uses substantial and pervasive filtering methods. Even though only .56% of the populations are internet users which may make it seem like there isn’t much going on over the internet but it’s the complete opposite. The government suppresses reports on a wide range of issues. In 2006, Gmail and Google were both outlawed online. Citizens can be arrested for anything subversive such as poetry and even listening to the wrong radio station in public. The authoritarian military called junta, is slowly expanding access to the Internet while maintaining one of the world’s most restrictive systems of control to belittle stifling traditional media and voices of reform. For more info I found this. Also the Gmail scandle and a NY times article.

  1. I am not surprised about Burma having the cencorship! Burma is still a hot spot in today's world and many things that happen there should not happen! So it's no wonder that the people don't have full access to the internet.
