Cyber Bully Alert

There is a website that is dedicated to stopping cyber bullying. Its called Cyber Bully Alert, and it contains everything from explaining what cyber bullying is, cases of people who were affected by it, a school incentive program, resources for help, parenting tips to prevent cyber bullying, and many other relating articles. Most importantly, the site has a downloadable program that allows a child to click on an Icon that sends an alert to the parents. This alert also can contain the child's name and a description of the incident if the child so chooses. The CyberBully Alert software is to be used to initiate communication between adults and children. The alert system was created in a response to not only cyber bullying, but the many suicides that have resulted from it.

  1. I think that this is in fact a good idea, but my question is do we really think this will work? Or will it help enough? I guess in answering my own question I would say this is a good preliminary step in getting people to be more aware of cyber bullying, but with the continual changing internet there will have to be many more attempts at stopping cyber bullying. In addition with the article of social networking we read in for class there is so much conversation from teens of their aloofness from parents. The cyber bullying site gives opportunity for the kids to have an icon that sends alerts to parents. Would kids ever really want to use this if they already steer clear of parental advisory?

  2. I agree with Brett that I think a lot of the time the problem is that kids would not want their parents to know. Things like this can often be hard to discuss with parents especially depending on what age the children are. I also agree that it is a good step in the right direction to stop cyber bullying. If it doesn't work for some, it will definitely work for others.
